What does this fault code mean?
The ignition coil for cylinder 2 receives too low a signal, so the engine control module has set the code. The signal wire may be short-circuited to ground, but a damaged ignition coil can give the same fault. The connector and the wire are the easiest place to start.
Possible causes
- Signal wire with a short to ground
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to ignition coil 2 is fully seated and clean
- 2Look at the wiring harness at the coil for chafed spots or loose clips
- 3Check with a multimeter that the signal wire is not grounded to the body when the connector is unplugged
- 4Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 5If the wire is intact: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator lamp is lit
- Cylinder 2 runs unevenly
