What does this fault code mean?
According to the engine control module, the signal to the ignition coil for cylinder 3 is missing. The coil then gets no control and cylinder 3 can misfire. The fault can lie in a connection, a wire or the coil itself, so it makes sense to start with connectors and wiring.
Possible causes
- Poor contact in the terminals
- Open circuit on the signal wire
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to ignition coil 3 is properly engaged and dry
- 2Look for a break in the wire from the coil, for example where it passes through a grommet or a bracket
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire is not broken, with the connector unplugged at the coil
- 4Read the code, note that it refers to ignition coil 3, clear it and road test
- 5If the wire is intact: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp is lit
- Cylinder 3 may not fire correctly
