What does this fault code mean?
According to the engine control module, the signal from the ignition coil for cylinder 3 is too high. The fault may be in the wire between the control module and the coil, which may be shorted to supply voltage, or in the coil itself. Cylinder 3 can then misfire, so the fault should be repaired.
Possible causes
- Supply voltage has shorted into the signal wire
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector at ignition coil 3 is fully seated and free from corrosion
- 2Follow the cable between the control module and the coil and look for chafing, kinks or pinch damage
- 3With a multimeter you can check whether the wire has a connection to plus or to other wires
- 4Read the code, note that it refers to ignition coil 3, clear it and road test
- 5If the wire is intact: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp is on
- Cylinder 3 does not fire properly
