What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered that the coil for cylinder 4 receives too high a signal. This may be a short to supply voltage in the cable between the module and the coil. If the coil itself is damaged it can also cause the fault, and cylinder 4 may then misfire.
Possible causes
- Cable between module and coil shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector at ignition coil 4 is fully seated and free from corrosion
- 2Follow the cable between the control module and the coil and look for chafing, kinks or pinch damage
- 3Look for places where the cable may have touched a live wire, for example near the battery or the fuse box
- 4Read the code, note that it refers to ignition coil 4, clear it and road test
- 5If the cable is intact: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp is on
- Cylinder 4 does not fire properly
