What does this fault code mean?
The ignition coil for cylinder 5 receives a signal that is too low, so the engine control module sets the code. The fault may be a cable shorted to ground, or a damaged ignition coil. While the fault is present, cylinder 5 may misfire, so it is important to fix it.
Possible causes
- Signal cable shorted to ground
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to ignition coil 5 is fully seated and clean
- 2Look at the cable from the coil for chafing, pinch damage and loose clips
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the cable has no connection to ground (the body), with the connector unplugged at the coil
- 4Read and clear the code, then road test
- 5If the cable is intact: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator lamp is lit
- The engine is not firing on every cylinder
