What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module reports that the signal to ignition coil 6 is missing. The coil then gets no control, and cylinder 6 can misfire. The fault can lie in a poor connection, a broken signal wire or a damaged ignition coil, and the connector is a good place to start.
Possible causes
- High contact resistance at the connector
- Open circuit in the signal line to the coil
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector at ignition coil 6 is fully seated and clean, without oxidation
- 2Follow the signal wire from the coil and look for breaks, chafing or places where it may have been pinched
- 3Use a multimeter to confirm that the signal wire is intact, with the connector unplugged at the coil
- 4Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 5If the wire is intact but the fault remains: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp is on
- The engine does not fire on every cylinder
