Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
4 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
This code concerns ignition timing control during a cold start, when the engine control module requests heating of the catalytic converter. If the ignition cannot be controlled as intended, the catalytic converter heats up too slowly, which can worsen emissions. Such a fault probably also stops idle control from working as it should. It is an information code that never appears alone, so troubleshooting starts with the other code.
Possible causes
- Another fault in the engine control module stored as its own code
What you can do
- 1Read all stored codes and start with the one that points to the underlying fault
- 2Repair the underlying fault first, then clear this code
- 3Road test the car after the repair and check that the code does not come back
- 4If the idle stays uneven after the repair: have a workshop check idle control with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp is lit
