What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module activates EVAP control and expects the idle or fuel trim to change. Although the code is named for a low signal, it concerns whether the EVAP system works: if no change is seen, the module treats the system as defective and sets the code. The fault may lie in the valve or in the hoses between the canister, the valve and the intake manifold.
Possible causes
- Faulty EVAP valve that gives an open position
- Blocked hose between the canister and the EVAP valve
- Blocked hose between the EVAP valve and the intake manifold
- Damaged EVAP valve
What you can do
- 1Note the code before you clear it
- 2Check the hoses between the canister, the EVAP valve and the intake pipe for kinks, loose joints or blockage
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the EVAP valve and listen for a click when it opens
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: see whether the idle air trim or the fuel trim changes when the EVAP valve is activated
- 5If the hoses are fine: have a workshop check the valve and the system's sealing with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp is lit
