What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks that the fuel vapour system is sealed. With the canister shut-off valve closed the system is closed, and if the fuel tank pressure falls the leak code is set. The cause can be a leaking EVAP valve.
Possible causes
- Leaking EVAP valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuel filler cap is properly secured and that its seal is intact
- 2Check the hoses and hose connections at the canister, the canister valve and the tank
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: run the quick fuel tank test with the engine idling when the tank is not too full, and see whether no leak is found
- 4Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 5If the fault remains: have a workshop check the EVAP valve with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect2
- Leak diagnosis is disabled
- Diagnostics for the catalytic converter, oxygen sensors, fuel trim and air pump are affected
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
