What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module has found that the EVAP valve is not working correctly, by analysing the signal from the intake manifold pressure sensor. The valve may be stuck open or closed, or a hose between the intake manifold, the valve or the canister may be damaged, blocked or pinched. If the fault shows in the quick test of the valve, it is permanent.

    Possible causes

    • Hose between the intake manifold and the EVAP valve is damaged, blocked or pinched
    • Hose between the EVAP valve and the canister is damaged, blocked or pinched
    • EVAP valve stuck in the open position
    • EVAP valve stuck in the closed position

    What you can do

    1. 1Check the hoses between the intake manifold, the EVAP valve and the canister for kinks, loose joints and damage
    2. 2If you have a diagnostic tool: run the quick test of the EVAP valve with the engine idling and see whether the test shows poor function
    3. 3If the test shows poor function, check the hose to the canister; if it shows good function, check the hose to the intake pipe
    4. 4Read and clear the code, then road test
    5. 5Have a workshop check or replace the EVAP valve with diagnostic equipment if the hoses are intact

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Malfunction indicator lamp is lit
    • Fuel smell
