What does this fault code mean?
The signal cable to the canister shut-off valve is short-circuited to ground or supply voltage, or the circuit is open. The engine control module then cannot control the valve, and the EVAP valve is not activated. The fault can come from poor contact in the connector, a shorted cable or a defective valve.
Possible causes
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Defective canister shut-off valve
What you can do
- 1Check the connector to the canister shut-off valve for contact resistance and oxidation, and make sure it is fully seated
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the valve with the ignition on and listen for a click
- 3If the valve works after the connector has been checked, poor contact may have been the cause: check the connector and the wire carefully
- 4Follow the wire from the valve and look for chafing, kinks or a short to the body
- 5Have a workshop replace the canister shut-off valve if the fault remains after these checks
