What does this fault code mean?
The fault code indicates that the EVAP system is open, meaning the valve is not working as it should. The engine control module activates EVAP control and checks whether the idle air trim or the fuel trim changes. If nothing changes, this is interpreted as a damaged EVAP system.
Possible causes
- Damaged EVAP valve
What you can do
- 1Check the EVAP valve connector and wiring for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Have you got a diagnostic tool: activate the EVAP valve with the ignition on and listen for a click when it opens
- 3Have a workshop check the EVAP valve with a vacuum pump, since this needs measurement
- 4If the valve works, check the hose between the EVAP valve and the intake manifold for leaks
- 5Have a workshop replace the EVAP valve if it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
