What does this fault code mean?
The fault code indicates that the EVAP system is closed, meaning the valve is not letting fuel vapours through as it should. The engine control module activates EVAP control and checks whether the idle air trim or the lambda trim changes. If nothing changes, this is interpreted as a damaged EVAP system, and a blocked hose may be the reason.
Possible causes
- Hose from the canister to the EVAP valve is blocked
- Blocked hose between the EVAP valve and the intake manifold
- Damaged EVAP valve
What you can do
- 1Check the canister-to-valve hose for kinks, clogging or blockage
- 2Check the hose between the EVAP valve and the intake manifold for kinks, blockage and leaks
- 3Have you got a diagnostic tool: activate the EVAP valve and check in live data whether the fuel trim changes when the valve opens
- 4Have a workshop run a vacuum test on the EVAP valve if the hoses are intact and clear
- 5Clear the fault code after the repair and test drive the car to see if it returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
