What does this fault code mean?
The fuel tank pressure does not fall quickly enough when the system is tested, which points to a major leak. The fault can lie in the tank, the filler pipe, the filler cap, the canister, the valves or the hoses, but also in the tank pressure sensor or in a blocked or sticking valve. The fault code is set when the engine control module runs its quick leak test.
Possible causes
- Leak in the tank, filler pipe, filler cap, canister, canister shut-off valve or the wiring between them
- Blocked valve, canister, tank pressure sensor or lines between these components
- Sticking canister purge valve
- Defective fuel tank pressure sensor
- Loose connection, giving a faulty signal
What you can do
- 1Check that the filler cap is correctly fitted and that its seal is not damaged
- 2Check hoses and hose connections at the canister, the canister shut-off valve and the tank, and repair as needed
- 3Check that the connector to the fuel tank pressure sensor is firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 4Have you got a diagnostic tool: read the tank pressure in live data at idle and check that it falls quickly when the canister shut-off valve is activated
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment run a fast leak check of the fuel tank system, and check the canister purge valve and tank pressure sensor if the fault returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
