What does this fault code mean?

The leak diagnostic has found a very small leak in the fuel tank system, a so-called smallest leak. The fault can be in the tank, the filler pipe, the filler cap, the canister, the canister shut-off valve or the hoses between them. Because the leak is so small, it can be hard to find without testing the system.

    Possible causes

    • Leaking fuel tank
    • Leaking filler pipe or filler cap
    • Leaking canister, shut-off valve or the lines between them

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the filler cap is correctly fitted and that its seal is undamaged
    2. 2Check hoses and hose connections at the canister, the canister shut-off valve and the tank, and remedy as needed
    3. 3Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment run a fast leak check of the tank system, since the leak is too small to find by sight
    4. 4The test does not start when the engine is cold, so let the engine warm up before the workshop tests
    5. 5Clear the fault code after the repair and test drive the car to see if it returns

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • The Check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
