What does this fault code mean?
During the leak diagnostic the fuel tank pressure is lowered to a set negative pressure, and the EVAP valve closes when it is reached. If the negative pressure falls too quickly over a certain time, this is interpreted as a small leak in the fuel system. The fault can come from leakage in the tank, the filler pipe, the filler cap, the canister, the canister shut-off valve or the lines between them.
Possible causes
- Leaking fuel tank, filler pipe or filler cap
- Leak in the canister, its shut-off valve, or the hoses between them
What you can do
- 1Check that the filler cap is correctly fitted and that its seal is undamaged
- 2Check hoses and hose connections at the canister, the canister shut-off valve and the tank, and remedy as needed
- 3Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the fuel tank system with a quick test after the repair
- 4The engine should be warm when the test is run, otherwise it will not start
- 5Have you got a diagnostic tool: read the tank pressure in live data with the engine at idle and check whether it stays steady when the system is sealed
- 6Clear the fault code after the repair and test drive the car to see if it returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
