What does this fault code mean?
When testing, the engine control module measures the current through the leak diagnostic pump, and if the current trace looks irregular it reads this as a faulty reference measurement. This can be due to dirt or moisture in the pump, or a damaged pump or a damaged heater element in the pump. The leak diagnosis is cancelled while the fault is present.
Possible causes
- Dirt or moisture in the pump
- Damaged leak diagnostic pump
- Damaged heater element in the pump
- Incorrect control of the heater element, which the central electronic module (CEM) registers as a fault
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop check the engine control module software before the leak is searched for
- 2Check the connector and connections of the leak diagnostic unit for moisture, dirt and oxidation
- 3Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment run a quick test of the fuel tank system to see whether the pump gives a steady reference
- 4If the test gives an uncertain result and the leak code has been stored before, continue troubleshooting even when the test shows no leak
- 5Have a workshop replace the leak diagnostic unit if the fault remains after these checks
