What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the heating element inside the leak diagnostic unit (a PTC resistor), and when the control signal becomes too high the fault code is set. The fault is usually caused by the signal wire being short-circuited to positive, or by a damaged leak diagnostic unit. It shows up while the engine runs and the control module switches the heating on and off.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged leak diagnostic unit or leak diagnostic pump
What you can do
- 1Check the signal wire to the heater element for a short circuit to positive
- 2Use a multimeter to check whether the signal wire gets positive voltage with the engine running, when it should not
- 3Look for pinched or chafed wiring that may have touched a positive feed
- 4Repair the short circuit and clear the fault code
- 5Have a workshop replace the leak diagnostic unit if the wiring is intact but the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
