What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the heating element inside the leak diagnostic unit, and when the control signal is too low the fault code is set. The fault is caused by the signal wire being short-circuited to ground or by a damaged leak diagnostic pump. The fault is tested while the engine is running.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Damaged leak diagnostic pump
What you can do
- 1Check the signal wire to the heater element for a short circuit to ground
- 2Use a multimeter between the signal wire and ground to see whether it is short-circuited
- 3Look for wires that may have chafed against a sharp metal edge or the body
- 4Repair the short circuit, clear the fault code and check that it does not return
- 5Have a workshop replace the leak diagnostic pump if the wiring is intact but the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
