What does this fault code mean?
After the reference phase the airflow is switched over to the fuel tank system to pressurise it, and the pump current falls briefly at this switchover. If the current falls too slowly or not at all, the engine control module interprets this as a damaged valve in the pump and sets the fault code. The leak diagnosis is interrupted while the fault is present.
Possible causes
- Dirt or moisture in the pump
- Valve in the pump stuck
- Damaged leak diagnostic pump
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop check the engine control module software on cars of model year 2003 to 2008 before the leak is searched for
- 2Have you got a diagnostic tool: start the quick test with the ignition on and check that it moves on from the reference phase
- 3Clean and dry the connector of the leak diagnostic unit if it is damp or dirty
- 4If the fault remains after the connector has been dried, have a workshop look for a stuck valve in the pump
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment run a quick test of the fuel tank system after the repair to check that the problem is solved
