What does this fault code mean?
If the fuel tank pressure does not fall quickly enough when the system is tested, the fault code is set. It is set in the first operating cycle where the fault is found, and the driver is then warned with a text message that the cap may be loose or missing. ECM-4308 for a major leak in the fuel tank system is set at the same time.
Possible causes
- Leak in the tank, filler pipe, filler cap, canister, canister shut-off valve or the lines between them
- Blocked EVAP valve, canister, tank pressure sensor or lines between these components
- Sticking EVAP valve
- Faulty fuel tank pressure sensor
- Filler cap missing or not properly tightened
- Fuel gauge not working, which is registered in the rear electronic module (REM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the filler cap is on and fully tightened, and that its seal is intact
- 2There is no separate fault-tracing for this code, so follow up the major leak that is set at the same time, ECM-4308
- 3Look for leaks in the hoses and connections at the canister, the canister shut-off valve and the tank
- 4Have you got a diagnostic tool: read the tank pressure in live data with the ignition on and check that it falls when the canister shut-off valve is activated
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment run a quick test of the fuel tank system if the leak cannot be found by these checks
