What does this fault code mean?
The pump current should fall when the valve in the leak diagnostic unit switches from the reference check to pressurising the fuel tank system. If the current falls too quickly, too slowly or not at all, the fault code is set. The fault can come from poor contact, a damaged leak diagnostic unit or incorrect control of the heater element.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Damaged leak diagnostic unit
- Damaged control of the heater element
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop check the engine control module software on cars of model year 2003 to 2008 before the leak is searched for
- 2Have you got a diagnostic tool: start the test and read the parameters, so that you can see it move from start to the reference phase
- 3Check that the connector to the leak diagnostic unit is firmly seated and clean
- 4Inspect the unit-to-canister hose for blockage
- 5Have a workshop run a new quick test after the repair and check that the fault does not come back
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
What the fault can affect1
- The leak diagnostic is disabled
