What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module monitors the pump power consumption during the reference phase. If the consumption drops below a set value, the fault code is set and the leak diagnostic is disabled. The fault can come from poor contact in the connections or a damaged leak diagnostic unit.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance in the connections
    • Damaged leak diagnostic unit

    What you can do

    1. 1Have a workshop check the engine control module software on cars of model year 2003 to 2008 before the leak is searched for
    2. 2Have you got a diagnostic tool: read the pump power consumption in live data during the reference phase and check whether it is lower than normal
    3. 3Check the connector to the leak diagnostic unit for contact resistance and oxidation
    4. 4Keep the battery voltage correct throughout the test and connect a battery charger if needed
    5. 5Have a workshop replace the leak diagnostic unit if the connector is sound but the fault remains

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on

    What the fault can affect1

    • The leak diagnostic is disabled

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
