What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module gets no fuel level information from the central electronic module (CEM), which in turn gets it from the rear electronic module (REM). The communication between the CEM and the engine control module has been broken, and the fault code is set. It can only be cleared once the faults in the CEM and the other modules have been remedied.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Start by having a workshop read the fault codes in the CEM and in the other modules on the CAN network
- 2Leave the fault code alone until the root faults in the other modules have been remedied
- 3Check that the connections in the CAN network are firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 4Look for chafed, pinched or broken CAN wiring
- 5Have a workshop check the CAN network and the CEM if the fault returns after the repairs
Symptoms you may notice1
- Fuel gauge shows a value that is too low
