What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has found a fault on the signal line to the fuel cut-off valve, and the fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes. It can be caused by a short circuit to positive or ground, an open circuit in the wire or a defective injection pump. While the fault is present, EGR control is switched off.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Defective injection pump
What you can do
- 1Check the connector of the fuel cut-off valve for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Look for chafed or pinched wiring to the fuel cut-off valve, especially where the signal wire may have touched positive or ground
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not open-circuited and has no contact with positive or ground
- 4Have a workshop check the injection pump if the wiring is intact
- 5Since the fault is intermittent it may come back, so clear the fault code after the repair and test drive the car
Symptoms you may notice3
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
- The engine does not start
- The engine does not stop
What the fault can affect1
