Applies to the following models:

Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the desired fuel quantity with the actual quantity, and the fault code is set when the difference becomes too large. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes. It can be caused by a short circuit in the signal wire, an open circuit or a defective injection pump, and the fuel supply is then shut off by the fuel shut-off valve.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Defective injection pump
What you can do
- 1Check the injection pump connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Look for chafed wiring to the injection pump
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is intact and has no contact with positive or ground
- 4Have a workshop check the power supply to the injection pump from the system relay
- 5Since the fault is intermittent it may come and go, so clear the fault code after the repair and test drive the car
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
- The engine does not start
What the fault can affect2
- Fuel supply is shut off by the fuel shut-off valve
- Fuel regulator is switched off
