Applies to the following models:

Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has found a fault in the signal wire from the position sensor, or the injection position was wrong when the engine was started or switched off. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes. The engine may then be hard to start, and an earlier fault in the injection pump may have left the code stored.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Defective injection pump
What you can do
- 1Check the connectors to the injection pump and the position sensor for oxidation and loose fit
- 2Look for chafed or pinched wiring from the position sensor
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the position sensor has no contact with positive or ground
- 4Have a workshop check the injection pump if the wiring is intact
- 5The engine may have had an earlier fault in the injection pump that is now gone; clear the fault code and test drive the car to see if it returns
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
- The engine does not start
