What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares fuel consumption with how much the fuel level drops over time. The code is set if the level falls implausibly little compared with the calculated consumption. It is a follow-on code, stored first in the central electronic module (CEM), so troubleshooting starts there.
Possible causes
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM), which reports the wrong fuel level to the ECM
- Fault in the fuel level sensor, which the CEM reads and passes on
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first and remedy them
- 2Once those are remedied, erase the CEM codes, and then this code can be erased
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the fuel level in live data with the gauge reading while the tank is filled
- 4If the fault remains after CEM troubleshooting, have a workshop check the fuel level sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Fuel gauge shows the wrong level or a value that is too low
