What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) does not receive the fuel level data that the central electronic module (CEM) normally passes on from the fuel level sensor. The fault comes from the ECM being unable to communicate with the CEM, and this code is first set in the CEM.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires between the modules
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Start by reading the fault codes in the CEM and remedying any faults there
- 2The code in the engine control module cannot be erased until the CEM fault is remedied, so erase it last
- 3With a multimeter you can check that the CAN wires have no break and no contact with each other
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the CAN network, since breaks and shorts need to be measured
Symptoms you may notice1
- Fuel gauge shows an incorrect value, often too low
