What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) registers that the signal from the fuel level sensor is too low, and sets a fault code both in itself and in the engine control module. Troubleshooting therefore starts in the CEM, and until it is complete this code cannot be erased.
Possible causes
- Electrical fault in the fuel level sensor giving too low a signal
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM), which should be troubleshot first
What you can do
- 1Start by reading the fault codes in the CEM and remedy them
- 2The code in the engine control module cannot be erased until the CEM fault is remedied, so erase it last
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the fuel level in live data with the gauge reading when the tank is full
- 4Have a workshop check the fuel level sensor and its electrical connection if the fault returns after CEM troubleshooting
Symptoms you may notice1
- Fuel gauge shows an incorrect value, often too low
