What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) keeps watch on the position sensor fitted to the EGR valve. When the signal is judged to be incorrect, the code is set. The fault lies in the position sensor signal, for example through poor contact or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Damaged position sensor on the EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, erase it and test-drive the engine to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector to the position sensor for loose connections and oxidation
- 3Look for breaks and chafing in the wiring between the position sensor and the engine control module
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: follow the EGR position value in live data at idle and see whether it jumps
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the position sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Message shown in the text display
What the fault can affect1
- EGR function does not work
