ECM-445D
VOLVO
ECM-445D - Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control. Offset error
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
An offset fault code means the EGR valve signal is shifted away from the value the engine control module expects. The fault can be in the valve or its wiring, and it makes EGR control go wrong.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation at the EGR valve connections
- Wiring to the EGR valve shorted to supply voltage
- Wiring to the EGR valve shorted to ground
- Break in the EGR valve wiring
- EGR valve stuck or sticking
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code and erase it, then test-drive and see whether it returns
- 2Look at the EGR valve connections for loose contacts and oxidation
- 3Check that the EGR valve is not blocked by dirt or soot
- 4With a multimeter you can check that the wiring to the EGR valve has no break
- 5Have a workshop check whether the engine control module software needs updating, since that is done with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- Check engine light lit
