What does this fault code mean?
The position sensor on the EGR valve sends a signal that the engine control module reviews. If the signal is judged to be incorrect, the code is set and EGR control does not take place. The cause may be high ambient temperature around the sensor or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- High ambient temperature around the position sensor
- Damaged position sensor
What you can do
- 1Note the fault code, erase it and check whether it returns after a test drive
- 2Check that no heat source is close to the position sensor or its wiring
- 3If the fault is gone after the test drive it is intermittent, and if it remains it is permanent
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data that the position sensor value follows the EGR valve when the engine revs up
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the position sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Message shown in the text display
What the fault can affect1
- No EGR control takes place
