Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) keeps watch on the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) function. The code means the EGR control is not right, that is, more exhaust gas is being recirculated to the intake than the engine management has requested. The fault lies in the EGR valve or its wiring and can be read while the engine is running.
Possible causes
- The EGR valve is seized, for example from dirt or soot
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check the intake system for leaks and damage
- 2Check the EGR valve and its connections for soot and dirt, and clean the valve if needed
- 3Check that the valve connector is fully engaged and free from oxidation
- 4Have a workshop activate the valve to check it is not seized; after replacing or cleaning it, the valve needs adapting
Symptoms you may notice3
- Emissions warning lamp on
- Message in the text display
- The engine lacks power or hesitates, especially on acceleration
What the fault can affect1
