What does this fault code mean?
The position sensor on the EGR valve reports a signal that is too high, and the engine control module sets the code when the signal is judged to be incorrect. EGR control then does not take place. The fault can lie in the signal wire, the EGR valve or the position sensor.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- EGR valve sticks
- Damaged position sensor
- An electromagnetic field can give the code
What you can do
- 1Read off and note the fault code, erase it and test-drive to see whether it returns
- 2See whether the EGR valve can be closed and opened fully without sticking
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the EGR valve several times and see whether it moves more freely afterwards
- 4Check the signal wire for a short to supply voltage, and the connectors for loose contacts and oxidation
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment examine the position sensor and the signal wire
Symptoms you may notice1
- Message shown in the text display
What the fault can affect1
- No EGR control takes place
