What does this fault code mean?
The position sensor on the EGR valve gives a signal that is too low, and the engine control module sets the code when the signal is judged to be incorrect. EGR control then stops. The signal wire may be shorted to ground, or the position sensor may be damaged.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged position sensor
- Interference from an electromagnetic field may sometimes have caused the code
What you can do
- 1Note the fault code, erase it and test-drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2A sticking EGR valve can give the same code, so check that it moves freely
- 3Check the position sensor connector for contact resistance, oxidation and breaks
- 4Look for a short to ground in the signal wire, and have a workshop measure it if it cannot be found
Symptoms you may notice1

What the fault can affect1
