What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the position sensor on the EGR valve. If the valve does not move to the position the engine control module requests, the code is set, and EGR control may then not take place.
Possible causes
- EGR valve sticking
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, erase it and test-drive the engine to see whether it returns
- 2Check the EGR valve connector for contact resistance, oxidation and breaks
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: command the EGR valve and listen whether it moves without sticking
- 4Look at the valve for soot and dirt that may stop it from following the request
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop examine the valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- Message shown in the text display
What the fault can affect1
- No EGR control takes place
