What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the EGR valve with a PWM signal through an internal power stage and monitors the output to find faults. The code is set when the PWM signal is incorrect, and a temperature that is too high can only be detected while the EGR valve is activated.
Possible causes
- Sticking EGR valve
- Dirt or soot can make the valve stick
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, erase it and test-drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the EGR valve connector for contact resistance, oxidation and breaks
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: command the EGR valve and listen for whether it moves evenly
- 4With a multimeter you can check that the signal wire is not shorted to ground
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop examine the EGR valve and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
