What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the EGR cooler bypass valve through its internal power stage and checks the signal to it. The code is set when the signal is too high, which can be caused by the signal wire being shorted to supply voltage or by a damaged bypass valve.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged bypass valve
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, erase it and test-drive to see whether it returns
- 2With a multimeter you can check that the signal wire to the bypass valve has no contact with supply voltage
- 3Look along the wiring to the bypass valve for chafing or pinch damage that could cause contact with supply voltage
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop examine the bypass valve and its wiring
