What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks that the catalytic converter heats up as it should. When heating is complete, the energy the engine has supplied is compared with the energy that was requested, and if the supplied energy is much lower the code is set. The code is probably a follow-on from other faults.
Possible causes
- Throttle is dirty or sticking
- Intake system is damaged
- Mass air flow sensor is damaged
- Injection valves are damaged
- Vacuum pump is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module and remedy any other faults first, since this code is probably a follow-on
- 2Erase the fault code once the other faults are remedied, and test-drive to see whether it returns
- 3Check that the throttle is not dirty or sticking, and clean it if needed
- 4Check that the intake hoses are sealed and not blocked, and that the mass air flow sensor connector is firm and clean
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop examine the injection valves and the vacuum pump
