What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has not received speed data from the brake control module, because the communication over the CAN network has been lost or disturbed. The code is set in the engine control module, and cruise control does not work while the signal is missing.
Possible causes
- Break in one or both CAN wires between the brake control module and the engine control module
- Contact resistance in the CAN connections
- One or both signal wires shorted to ground, supply voltage or each other
- Damaged brake control module (BCM)
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes stored in the CEM and in other affected modules first, and remedy them
- 2Erase the fault code only once the faults are remedied, then test-drive
- 3With a multimeter you can check the CAN wires for breaks and for shorts to ground or supply voltage
- 4Since the fault concerns speed data from the brake control module, have a workshop check the braking system before you drive if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control does not work at all
What the fault can affect2
- Cruise control is switched off
- In cars with an automatic gearbox, speed data from the gearbox module takes over instead
