What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has flagged a communication problem on the CAN link between the gearbox module (TCM) and itself. The code is set then, and the emissions lamp may light and the accelerator pedal may not respond.
Possible causes
- Break in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Fault inside the engine control module itself
- Fault inside the gearbox control module (TCM)
- Another module on the same part of the CAN network has an internal fault
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes stored in the CEM and in other affected modules first, and remedy them
- 2Erase this code only once the faults in the other modules are remedied
- 3With a multimeter you can check that the CAN wires have no break and are not shorted to each other
- 4If the accelerator pedal does not respond, do not drive the car until a workshop has checked it, and have the CAN network and modules examined if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
- Accelerator pedal gives no response
