What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has received a vehicle speed signal above the highest value the system allows. The code points to another module sending the wrong speed, and the engine module stores it as a result. The environment lamp comes on, but the fault has no noticeable effect.
Possible causes
- Wrong speed reading from the brake control module (BCM)
- Wrong speed reading from the transmission control module (TCM)
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read and note the codes in the brake control module (BCM) and the transmission control module (TCM) and fix them first, since the incorrect speed comes from there
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the speed value in the engine module's live data with the vehicle speed during a test drive and see whether they differ greatly
- 3The brake control module (BCM) is part of the braking system: do not work on it or its wiring yourself. Have a workshop check it if the fault remains
- 4Clear the code only once the cause is fixed, then road test to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- The environment lamp lights up
