What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) has lost communication with the central electronic module (CEM) over the CAN network. The fault may lie in a broken wire, in fault codes stored in the CEM, or in the CEM itself. The code may be a follow-on fault, in which case the fault in the CEM should be fixed first. The driver normally notices nothing.

What you can do

1Read and fix the codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since this code may be a follow-on fault
2Look for breaks, chafing or pinched sections in the CAN wiring between the engine control module and the CEM
3Check that the connectors on the control modules are fully seated and free from corrosion
4Clear the code and road test to see whether it returns
5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the CEM with diagnostic equipment
