What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the oil level sensor. Although the code is named signal missing, it is also set when the reading is too high or too low. The causes are in the wiring, in the connectors, or in the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Faulty oil level sensor
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Play, raised contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Break in the signal wire
- Break in the supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector at the oil level sensor is fully seated and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 2With a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no contact with voltage or ground and is not broken
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil level value in live data with the engine running and see whether it is too high, too low or missing
- 4If ECM-5630 is also stored, fix the fault for this code first
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop try a new oil level sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The oil pressure lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- Warning lamps and warning signals light up or behave abnormally
