What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) monitors the engine oil temperature through the oil temperature sensor. The code is set when the sensor's reading is faulty, for example too high or too low. The fault may come from the wiring, the connectors, or the sensor itself, and a message is shown in the text display.

    Possible causes

    • Signal wire shorted to voltage
    • Raised contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
    • Signal wire shorted to ground or broken
    • Break in the ground or supply lead
    • Damaged oil temperature sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the connector at the oil temperature sensor is fully seated and free from oxidation and contact resistance
    2. 2With a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no break and no short to ground
    3. 3With a multimeter, check that the ground and supply leads to the sensor are not broken
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil temperature value in live data with the ignition on and see whether it is unreasonably high or low
    5. 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the wiring and replace the oil temperature sensor if needed

    Symptoms you may notice1
