What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps watch on both oil and coolant temperature. When the two differ too much, it is read as a fault in the oil temperature sensor and the code is set. A message is shown in the text display. The causes are the connectors, the wiring, or the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Raised contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Break in the signal wire
- Damaged oil temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector at the oil temperature sensor is fully seated and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 2With a multimeter, check that the signal wire from the oil temperature sensor is not broken
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the oil and coolant temperatures in live data with the ignition on and see whether they differ unreasonably
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop disconnect and check the connector, and replace the oil temperature sensor if needed
