What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the oil level through the sensor and sets the code when the signal is faulty. Although the code is named signal too low, the fault can also come from a signal that is too high. The causes are a short in the wiring, a damaged sensor, or poor contact, and a message is shown in the text display.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged oil level sensor
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Raised contact resistance or oxidation in the contacts
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector at the oil level sensor is fully seated and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 2With a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no contact with ground or voltage
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil level value in live data with the ignition on and see whether it is unreasonably high or low
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the wiring and replace the oil level sensor if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
