What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the oil level by calculating an average of the sensor signal. The code is set when the calculated value is faulty, for example with a low oil level or poor contact at the sensor. The fault appears as a message in the display.
Possible causes
- Reading is too low, for example with a low oil level
- Raised contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged oil level sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the oil level is correct using the dipstick
- 2Check that the connector at the oil level sensor is fully seated and free from oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil level value in live data with the ignition on and see whether it is unreasonably low
- 4If the fault remains with the level correct, have a workshop try a new oil level sensor
