What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) monitors the exhaust gas temperature and compares it with a calculated value. The code is set when the temperature deviates too far. Although the code is named signal too low, the cause can also be a signal that is too high from a damaged sensor. A message is shown in the text display.

    Possible causes

    • Damaged exhaust temperature sensor
    • Raised contact resistance or oxidation in the connector terminals

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the connectors at the exhaust temperature sensors for the catalytic converter and the particulate filter are fully seated and free from oxidation
    2. 2Check that the wiring to the sensors is not chafed or broken
    3. 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the exhaust temperatures in live data with the engine running and see whether any differs strongly from what you would expect
    4. 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensors and replace the damaged one

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • A message is shown in the text display

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
